KING STREET RESIDENCE | WATERLOO, ON
COMPLETED IN: 2003
AREA / UNITS: 155,500sf / 164
TYPE: NEW CONSTRUCTION
CONSTRUCTION BUDGET: $18.5M
Located opposite the Wilfred Laurier University main campus, this 155,500sf student residence consists of 164 efficient two bedroom suites with shared bathroom, a large multi-purpose dining and assembly space, and various study and recreational areas. The 18.5 million facility is also home to a 1,000sf Student Housing Administration wing. The eight-storey building is seated on a landscaped podium above a 100-stall open air parking garage. The podium features sculptural trellises, extensive planting and several open and covered courtyard spaces which facilitate student interaction while simultaneously tempering the building scale. The project was undertaken within extremely tight timeframes, allowing only one year for “fast track” design, construction documentation and actual construction to be completed for occupancy on schedule in September of 2003.
